Dieuwke Philpott, who taught patchwork and quilting in the 1970s to 1980s in Codicote. She left Codicote and made those attending promise to set up a group which they called Mimram Quilters. First meeting in the church hall in Welwyn and then, when numbers grew to 80+ members, at the Civic Centre. The 12 original founders formed the Mardigras Girls, which still meets every Tuesday morning in each others’ houses.
